Hello World!

Welcome to my blog about my attempt to do a career change into the exciting world of computer science! I haven't kept a diary for more than 15 years, barely even do facebook status updates, let alone tweets, but I thought it might be fun to keep a track of my foray into programming, and hey, maybe it might help someone else in the same situation...

So this is a story all about how....

...My life got flipped-turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became*...a wannabe coder.  After working in the same finance job since uni for 6 years and having flirted with the idea of trying something new for about 2 years, I finally drummed up the courage in October 2013 to stop daydreaming and actually take action to change my job.  Since then, I've taken some baby steps that have lead me to start this blog and make a record of programming-related things I've tried.

As will soon become apparent, I started off knowing next to nothing about computer science and I hope my scribblings about my experiences will give some insight to both experienced programmers and fellow newbs into what it's like to learn it from scratch!

When learning a new computer programming language, it's customary to start off by writing a program that prints "Hello World!".  So now we've got that out of the-way, let's begin...

* I have been known to rap the Fresh Prince of Bel-air theme on demand.  Will also do the Carlton dance on special occassions.
